2-Güvercinada
A prominent location that immediately comes to mind whenever Kuşadası is mentioned, Güvercinada is situated within the boundaries of the Hacıfeyzullah Mahallesi. Strategically positioned at a key point in the Kuşadası Gulf, Güvercinada Castle, originally utilized as a military outpost during the Byzantine era, underwent restoration in the Ottoman period. In 1957, a road was constructed, connecting the island to the mainland and facilitating easier access.
Constructed to defend against potential threats, particularly during the Mora Rebellion, the castle was later illuminated, modernized, and repurposed for tourism. Over time, the island has seen the establishment of restaurants and cafes; however, today it is primarily used for meetings and events for various purposes.
The island is enclosed by 3-meter-high walls for protection and provides a habitat for numerous bird species. Visitors to Güvercinada can witness captivating sunsets and savor the island’s unique atmosphere. The castle was built by Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, while the walls were constructed by İlyas Ağa.
Accessible by road, Güvercinada can be visited throughout the year. Regardless of the season, visitors can capture photographs showcasing the island’s diverse beauties and color tones.

The epithet “Öküz” (Ox) in Mehmet Paşa’s name originates from his father’s ox farrier shop. The construction of the caravanserai was commissioned by Grand Vizier Öküz Mehmet Paşa and is enclosed by high stone walls. Additionally, the caravanserai is mentioned in Evliya Çelebi’s travelogue.
Presently serving as a tourist facility, the Öküz Mehmet Paşa Caravanserai offers free entry and provides visitors with a pleasant experience.

Located in the heart of Kuşadası and easily accessible on foot, Kaleiçi Mosque was commissioned by Öküz Mehmet Paşa in the 17th century. This mosque is situated alongside the Kaleiçi Hamamı caravanserai, also built during the same period. Ilyas Ağa, the Governor of Muğla at the time, contributed financially to the construction of a library adjacent to the mosque, enriching the site with Islamic works and opening it to visitors.
In addition to Kaleiçi Mosque, other historical mosques in the Kuşadası district include the Turkish Mosque built in 1650 as an alternative, the Camiiatik Mosque, the Hanım Mosque constructed in 1658, and the Hacı İbrahim Mosque.
