How to Perform Umrah? For someone wishing to perform Umrah, if they are traveling by air from Turkey to Jeddah and then proceeding to Mecca, they should wear the Ihram at the airport before boarding the plane.

The supplications (duahs) to be made during Tawaf and Sa’y are not obligatory. It suffices to recite the duahs you are familiar with and express the ones that come to your mind.

Umrah Tips to Consider Before Your Journey

You can easily perform Umrah by reading our article.

It is recommended to perform a two-unit prayer with the intention of Ihram. 1st unit: Recite Surah Al-Kafirun (Qulya eyyühel kafirun) 2nd unit: Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas (Kulhuvallahu ehad) and make the intention for Umrah.

The intention for Umrah is as follows: “O Allah, I intend to perform Umrah, make it easy for me, and accept it from me.”

Telbiye: Recite the Talbiyah saying, “O Allah, I have responded to Your command with both my words and actions, submitted to Your command, and there is no partner with You. I have sincerely and faithfully responded to Your command and invitation. You have no equal or partner. Indeed, all praise and blessings are Yours, and sovereignty belongs to You. You have no partner.”

After making the intention and reciting the Talbiyah, Ihram has been entered, and the “IHRAM PROHIBITIONS” begin. Additionally, it is recommended to recite Salawat three times after the intention and Talbiyah.

During the journey, when encountering any group on high hills, when stopping and moving again, entering a new region or city, recite the Talbiyah and Takbir.

“Labbaik, Allahumma labbaik. Labbaik la sharika laka labbaik. Inna’l-hamda wa’n-ni’mata laka wa’l-mulk, la sharika laka.”

Intention For Umrah Tawaf

Arrive at the corner where the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad) is located, make the intention for Tawaf.

“O Allah, I want to perform Umrah Tawaf for Your pleasure. Grant me ease and accept it.”

Tawaf involves circumambulating the Kaaba seven times with sincere feelings, prayers, and remembrance, starting and ending at the Black Stone. Each round is called a “Shawt.”

Tawaf begins at the Black Stone and ends at the Black Stone. During Tawaf, it is recommended for men to uncover their right shoulder (Izdiba) while circumambulating. This is a Sunnah. At the start and end of each Shawt, say “BISMILLAH ALLAHU AKBAR” when reaching the Black Stone.

There are no specific obligatory prayers during Tawaf, and individuals can recite Tawaf prayers, personal supplications, remembrances, or verses from the Quran.

After completing Tawaf, perform a two-unit Tawaf prayer at the Station of Ibrahim (Makam-ı İbrahim), if it is not a disliked time. Recite Surah Al-Kafirun in the first unit and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the second unit, following Fatiha. Make short personal supplications.

Then, drink Zamzam water and moisten your head lightly with it.

Sa’i (Walk Between Safa And Marwa)

The walking between Safa and Marwa is called Sa’i. This involves walking four times from Safa to Marwa and three times back from Marwa to Safa. Sa’i starts at Safa and ends at Marwa. One round from Safa to Marwa is called a “Shawt,” and a complete Sa’i consists of seven Shawts.

While walking, recite Takbir, make supplications, express gratitude, and recite Salawat. When reaching between the two green pillars, perform “HERVELE,” which is a brisk and energetic walk, symbolizing the actions of Hagar (may Allah be pleased with her) in her search for water. Hervele is a Sunnah during each Shawt, and women are exempt from performing Hervele.

After completing the seventh Shawt at Marwa, make Duah.
  • After completing Sa’i, cut a small portion of your hair as desired. Ihram is not considered lifted until the hair is cut. Do not wear other clothes, and other Ihram prohibitions continue. For both men and women, cutting the hair signifies the end of Ihram.
  • Shaving also lifts Ihram. After shaving, all Ihram prohibitions, including marital relations, are lifted in Mecca. After this, the Umrah performer should strive to perform additional Tawaf in Mecca, offer makeup prayers, and if desired, enter Ihram again from other Miqats to perform Umrah as described earlier.
