How to Apply for a Turkish Citizen Passport, What are the Required Documents, and How Much are the Fees? A passport is an internationally recognized identity document necessary for any travel abroad. In our article, you can find answers to many frequently asked questions such as how to apply for a passport, what documents are required, and the fees involved.

How to Obtain a Passport?

To obtain a passport, you first need to schedule an appointment online or by phone with the Population and Citizenship Affairs Directorate. You can schedule an appointment for application at the provincial or district population directorates. After the appointment date is set, you should prepare the necessary documents and pay the passport fee. (Passports for personal and service use are exempt from fees, so this step can be skipped if applying for these types of passports.) You can then complete your application by going to the application center at the scheduled date and time. During the application, biometric data such as fingerprints will be recorded. After the application is approved and the passport is prepared, you can collect your passport from the application center or via mail.

Let’s detail what needs to be done in terms of appointment, necessary documents, and payment steps.

What are the Required Documents for a Passport?

The required documents for a passport may vary depending on the type of passport. There are common documents for public, special stamped, and service stamped passport types. These include:

  • Turkish ID card, identity card, or temporary identity document.
  • One biometric photograph taken within the last six months.
  • Old passport (Previously obtained and not canceled passports must be brought during the application).

The presence of a payment receipt among the required documents for the passport is one of the most frequently asked questions. Before the appointment date, the passport fee and booklet fee must be paid. Since payment information is visible through the system, no receipt is requested during the application. Payment should be made before the application without the need for further steps.

Apart from these basic documents, there may be different requirements depending on the applicant’s situation and passport type. You can learn about other detailed required documents for passport types from the Frequently Asked Questions section on the official website of the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs.
